ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS

Sharpening

Friday, May 23

This workshop will cover the basics of sharpening edge tools and handsaws. We will discuss and evaluate the different types of sharpening systems and how to maintain them, including natural and synthetic whetstones, water stones, sandpaper, and electric sharpeners. Flattening stones will be demonstrated and practiced. Participants will learn how to sharpen chisels, knives, axes, adzes and drill bits (twist and auger). Finally, we will demonstrate the jointing, sharpening and setting of rip and crosscut handsaws. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tools to sharpen and stones, but their appropriateness for the course will depend on their condition.

Tuition: $135, includes lunch. This course runs from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
